Land Acknowledgement
Inclusion System extends our profound respect and immeasurable gratitude to all the ancestors and keepers of the land on whose traditional territories our work takes place. We acknowledge that our offices are located on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the traditional homeland of the Métis people.
We also recognize that our work on Vancouver Island takes place on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. These lands are sacred, historical, and deeply significant.
Every time we acknowledge this truth, we have an invitation and an opportunity to reflect on the wrongs of the past, the actions we take in the present, and how we can continually honour the people whose lands and waters we benefit from today.
This statement is only a first step in honouring the lands we reside on and their peoples, and it must be paired with education, understanding, and informed action.
